Leaving Rome...off to Florence!

We had another tour with Francesco today…and it was the best one! We drove about 60 minutes outside of Rome to the village of Overtia. We spent the afternoon walking around the town, shopping, and taking pictures outside a beautiful church.

The next stop was for lunch. Francesco told us to eat a light lunch…but we were shocked with how much food they gave us. We prob ate 10-12 different courses of food. The cook gave us a sampler of all different meats, cheeses, etc. Then they ended the meal with Tiramisu.

Our final stop of the tour was to a small village called Civita di Bagnoregio which only has about 20 people living in it. To get to the town you have to walk up a very steep winding road(pic below). We all made it to the top of the town…with a few stops along the way up. It was a very cool town! We got the chance to taste some of the best olive oil we have ever eaten.

Tonight we walked around Rome for a while and window shopped. Valenino, Gucci, D & G, were just some of the shops we looked into it…but knew we couldn’t afford to walk into! After that we ate at a restaurant outside and enjoyed some Cosmo’s and Beer for the guys.

Carter was in great mood today…just went to bed about 15 minutes ago. Kenny has been teaching him how to wave and to "try and crawl", and we have gotten Carter laughing a bunch the last few nights. It’s fun to see his personality start to come out

We leave for Florence in the AM so I am off to bed

Ready for the tour!!

Countryside of Rome

Today we took a tour with the Miles and Miles group. Our tour guide Francesco took us on Wine and Food Tasting Tour of the Roman Countryside.

We drove outside the city and stopped at some little villages and was able to see some beautiful views. We got the chance to see a couple little wine cellars that were built under volcano caves.

Next we went a Place called Pagnanelli for lunch. It has been family owned since 1882. The food was amazing and the family at the resturant was great. They have 32,000 bottle of wine underneath the restaurant in a cellar that the family had hand chiseled(literally) and cost them 4 million to complete the project. After lunch they served us grapp- which is a traditional Roman After dinner drink (pretty much straight alcohol) and then some lemon chello.

For the last stop Francesco took us to a coffee place in rome that he said was "an absolute must" even if u dont love coffee! So we went to Sant' Eustachio-which is located by the Pantheon. I must say i am not a coffee drinker- but the capachinno was awesome!

Later that evening the Bachman's and Carter stayed behind and Jim, Sandy, Kenny and I all decided to go see the Pantheon and grab a drink and some pizza. My favorite part of Rome so far is how nice the weather is at about 8-9 at night. It almost gets warmer outside! We made it to the Pantheon and ended up eating outside at a little place across from it. There was plenty of people outside playing music and talking- was a great time!

Tommorow we have another trip with Francesco and then we leave for Florence on Saturday AM.

Have a good evening!

Playing at breakfast...check out Jim's new t-shirt purchase!!

Here are some more pics from our journey.

We took a day tour of the vatican, sistine chapel, and the basilica. What beautiful places. Carter was in good spirits the whole tour...and all the italian's enjoyed his smiles! =)

That evening we went a restaurant that served pizza and chello! After that Sandy and Carter went back to the hotel and went to a place call Swishticca. They served ice cream and whiskey...a win for all parties involved!

The weather has been great...cool and breezy! Food has been delicious and Kenny has found lots of beer to enjoy.

Will write more later,

Ciao!
